Karl Johans Gate

DSCN0542 kopiThis is also taken by me in early February 2014, and it’s a street sign at the Karl Johans Gate in Oslo. This is the main street in Oslo, and was named in honor of King Charles III John of Norway and King Charles XIV John of Sweden (which is the same guy). His name was Karl III Johan in Norwegian, which gave name to the street going between Oslo Central Station and the Royal Palace.

The sign says the name of the street, Karl Johans gate, and a short description of the man behind the sign. He was born in 1763, died in 1844, and was the union King of Norway and Sweden from 1818 until 1844.
