The former wall of Berlin

Berliner mauer kreuzberg

Between 1961 and 1989 the Berlin wall (or in german die Berliner Mauer) split the city of Berlin physically into the two different Germanys the city belonged to. It was built to prevent the people of East Germany to escape to the west, and got named “death strip” because of the amount of people that tried to cross the border and died while trying to flee.

This picture was taken in mid-february 2015 in Kreuzberg in Berlin.
