The summer is ending, and Uni begins

uia plenen

This week the students at Universities (and other schools) are starting again after the summer in Norway. A campus that has been silent and almost alone will once again be filled with the noise from students and their other activities. In Norway it’s pretty common to start of the fall semester with a week filled with getting to know your new fellow students, getting to know your (possibly) new city, getting to know the University, and going to concerts and other activities. (All of these activities may often be done while drinking alcohol since the legal age limit is 18 in Norway, but alcohol is in no way a mandatory part of University life in Norway.)

This picture was taken the week after the start-up in mid-August 2014 at the University of Agder in Kristiansand. The week before, the lawn was filled with tents where student activities was promoted, concerts were held, and a gathering of people handing out free stuff.
